Obituary for Syd Banting
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sydney (Syd) Ernest Banting. Syd passed away at home on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the age of 81. He was born on June 19, 1936 in Birch River, Manitoba.
As a young man, work in exploration and the mining industry brought Syd to Flin Flon. There he met his wife, Eileen, and they married on July 20, 1963. Together they made Creighton, Saskatchewan their home and raised their seven children – Rick, Noella, Tim, Robin, Dave, Wanda and Mark. Syd was dedicated to supporting his community, serving as mayor of Creighton for two terms from 1974 to 1982.
Syd worked for many years at Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting until his retirement. During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time at the cabin at Big Mari Lake. Many fishing trips to the cabin with Dad (Grandpa) were enjoyed over the years by his children, grandchildren and friends.
Syd is survived and will be missed by his wife Eileen, children Rick (Brenda), Noella (Dave), Tim (Sharon), Dave (Bobbi), Wanda (Ron), Mark (Elke), his daughter-in-law Carolyn, and grandchildren: Richard, Clinton, Jenny, Reid, David, Daniel, Harley, Samantha, Dawn, Halle, Jada, Megan, Madison, Hayden and Lucas, as well as many great-grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many people who have dropped by or reached out in kindness – your gestures are very appreciated. The family would like to especially thank dear friends, Lyle & Debbie and Ray & Gail – your kindness and help over the past many months will be forever remembered.
