Frances Labarre of 85 Hapnot Street passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Flin Flon General Hospital at the age of 69 years old after a courageous battle with ALS.

Frances Christine was born August 18, 1949 in Flin Flon, Manitoba, the only child of Frank and Albertine McMartin. She grew up in Flin Flon and graduated from Hapnot Collegiate. Her childhood hobbies included piano, figure skating and ballet.

Frances attended University in Winnipeg where she obtained a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of recreation studies. She spent many years working at CIBC and finished her career working as a Community Health Developer for Primary Health. It was a job she loved with people she really enjoyed.

Fran had a number of hobbies in her adult years. She was very creative and sewed, painted, decorated cakes and made cards to name a few. She also continued with her love of music and taught many years of piano lessons to hundreds of children.

Fran had an immense love for dogs and spent much time walking with and caring for five springer spaniels over the years: Chloe, Bear, Spencer, Bailey and Emma. She spoke of her dogs often and she missed them dearly once they passed.

Predeceased by her parents, she leaves to mourn her three children Aaron, Nicole and Evynn, eight grandchildren Pierce, Faith, Logan, Sullivan, Mallory, Natalie, Henry and Anna, daughters-in-law Tamara and Amanda, son-in-law Allan and many, many other friends. Fran was a strong individual, full of grace and a love for life. She lived a life full of happiness and found joy in everything she did.

A private celebration was held to celebrate Fran’s life. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the SPCA.

We would like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to our family and friends for the kindness, care, and support extended to us on the loss of our mother. Our thanks to the doctors, nurses, hospital and ambulance staff involved in her care. A special thanks to Taylor Raddysh, Christine Bell and all of the home care attendants that cared for mom for close to three years. Thank you to all of her friends who shared in her care by bringing meals, desserts and companionship over the years. To all who supported us with prayers, cards, floral arrangements and meals, your many acts of kindness and thoughtfulness will be remembered. Our thanks to Darren Grant and Dadson for their guidance, support and special care.

I just heard of Fran’s passing (we used to call her FrannyJ and I’m sorry to hear of her suffering and passing. I knew Fran as a teenager growing up in Flin Flon and managed a few parties with her. There was a party next door to her house and it involved sneaking up some back stairs to get her in without her parents seeing. She was so fun, she was such a lady, her clothes were always exquisite, and she was just so darned nice. I have wonderful memories of her. Sincerely, Judy Reagan Gordon

Fran and I were best friends in our teen years, enjoying school dances, Phantom Lake days, and all the fun we had
growing up in Flin Flon...I spent many hours at her home on Hapnot as a teen...I was fortunate to spend a few hours with Fran during my visit at the Flin Flon Reunion in 2017, reliving some of our school days....I will cherish these memories of you, Fran.......Your Friend, Elaine Mack
