“Laurelle Oulette (nee Vancoughnett)

Date of Birth: July 5, 1948
Death: November 9, 2019

It is with saddened hearts that the family of Laurelle Oulette announce her passing on November 9, 2019 at the age of 71. Left to cherish her memory are her son Donald (Lindsay); daughter Barb (Jason) Trottier; 4 grandchildren Tim, Abby, Sydney, and Ethan; siblings Melva Hayward, Myrna Hawkins, Dianne Steeves, Bill (Audrey) Vancoughnett, Donna (Brian) Jesso, Darlene Larson, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Laurelle is predeceased by her husband Donald, daughter Debbie, parents Melvin and Kathleen Vancoughnett and brother Keith Vancoughnett.

Memorial Service to take place November 30, 2019 at 11am at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Flin Flon, MB”

Laurelle was born on July 5th 1948 in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Melvin & Kathleen Vancoughnett.
She was the 5th of 8 children and had a strong bond with her siblings Melva, Keith, Myrna,
Dianne, Bill, Donna and Darlene.
On February 17, 1968 she married the love of her life Donald Oulette. They had 3 children,
Debbie, Don Jr. and their Christmas baby Barb. Throughout the years they lived in Qualicum
Beach, Victoria, Regina, and Flin Flon.
Laurelle was a registered nurse and spent much of her career at the Flin Flon General Hospital.
There she made many friends with her colleagues and later changed positions to a hospital
administrator. After retiring in July 2010, Laurelle and Don moved to Winnipeg to be closer to
their daughter Barb and her family.
Sadly, Dec 28, 2010 marked the passing of her Daughter Debbie after a courageous battle with
cancer and on Jan 4, 2014 Laurelle lost her husband Don due to complications with dementia.
Family was important to Laurelle, especially her grandchildren Tim, Abby, Sydney, and Ethan.
She loved her grandchildren dearly, and after she moved to Winnipeg was able to spend a lot of
time with Sydney and Ethan. Laurelle loved watching Sydney’s dance competitions and Ethan’s
karate tournaments. Many sleepovers were held at grandma’s house in Winnipeg. When
Laurelle traveled to Alberta to visit, she enjoyed watching Tim’s football games and Abby play
ringette. Laurelle loved visiting with her sisters Darlene and Dianne and their families in
Medicine Hat and enjoyed her visits with Donna and Brian when they would go to Winnipeg.
Laurelle passed away in hospital on November 9th, 2019 in Winnipeg. She leaves behind her
son Don and daughter in-law Lindsay and their children Tim & Abby; and her daughter Barb and
son in-law Jason Trottier and their children Sydney and Ethan. Also left to mourn her loss are
her siblings Melva, Myrna, Dianne, Bill and his wife Audrey, Donna and her husband Brian, and
Darlene plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Laurelle is now at peace and has been reunited in heaven with her husband Don, Daughter
Debbie, parents Mel and Kay, and brother Keith.

Vicky and I want to share our memories... of a our dear and wonderful friend of 56 years

It was in the early 1960's in Channing Manitoba . Laurelle lived up on the hill in a two storey house, Vicky and I lived half way down the hill on the same street two houses apart, from each other. Laurelle and I went to the Channing school and were in the sixth grade together .

The area of Channing had a lake and two stores. Leona 's was the one store with a jute box, mostly where we all hung out around . Leona would sell 2 cigarettes for 5 cents. so we'd bought whenever someone had money, most times we shared a cigarette together. Our fun was walking up and down around Channing and hanging out at the store, or the beach area at the lake in the summer time. There were the Bonham's family, the Richards and Menzie and Braaten families. We were one big family.

I liked going over to the Vancougnett home, and was always welcomed, even though I got us both in trouble. Our little scheme was to say were staying the night at each other's house, (when we didn't ) I think we only pulled that scheme once!

I left Channing in 1964 for Calgary. It seemed everyone went to Calgary from Flin Flon. It was new and exciting. I left for Edmonton later that year and got married to my first husband
I came back to Flin Flon a few times with my children in the 70, 80, and 90's to visit , my mom and stepfather.
We all lost touch with one another, as we married and began raising our own families

it was in the year 2005 or 2007 ( can't remember ) I had contacted Laurelle, back in Flin Flon , she and Vicky were already in touch for a few years. Vicky lived near Devon , and my family was in Onoway. Laurelle came to Spruce Grove to visit with her son and family.
Our first get together was a meal at Smithy's Restaurant. Dianne came also and we took pictures. Our plan was to meet each year ( if possible)
Last year 2018 we decided to share a motel, so we met in Stony Plain around 3 in the afternoon. the motel had a good restaurant where we ate a scrumptious meal and drank coffee, In the room we talked and giggled of past memories until our
coffee wore off. In the morning we went and enjoyed a great breakfast. Our rides were to come at noon so we made the best of our time.
It was our hope to do that again ... maybe next Christmas ? Our health and age was beginning to say different. We stayed close in monthly contact with each other, as each of us had concerns, for one another..

When I saw Laurelle postings recipes on Facebook I though GREAT! she has her appetite back! . In one of our conversations I mentioned this to her ....only for her to tell me...... she was in the hospital again and had nothing to do but post favourite food recipes. What a girl !! still thinking positive.

I wish I could share some pictures of us but unable because of my outdated iPhone
To the family and grandchildren Keep her alive by.... sharing in the happy times, She truly did not want to leave you all

Vicky and I send big hugs and much love ....we miss her too !
