John (Jack) Andrew MacArthur
12 December 1925 - 4 December 2020
John (Jack) Andrew MacArthur passed away just shy of his 95th birthday, in the Flin Flon General Hospital after a short illness. Jack was born at Pleasantdale, Saskatchewan to parents Elizabeth (nee Buchanan) and Charles MacArthur. He spent his childhood on the family farm, until his family relocated to Flin Flon in the late 1930's. He spent the remainder of his life in Flin Flon, other than his World War II service in the Royal Canadian Navy on board the HMCS Ettrick in its role as a convoy escort in the north Atlantic.
After his return from active service, Jack was employed as a journeyman Boilermaker by Hudson Bay Mining until his retirement. He married Dora (nee Maluta) in 1948, and they raised their family in Flin Flon.
Jack is survived by his widow, Dora, and two sons: David (Vicki) of Medicine Hat, AB and Gordon of Flin Flon; and two grandchildren Wendy (Arne) Tingstad of Sherwood Park, AB and Nils of Medicine Hat, AB; as well as four great grandchildren: Ava and Elle Tingstad and Nathaniel and Grayson MacArthur; and a number of nieces and nephews. All will miss him greatly.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, as well as his siblings and their spouses: Eileen (Earl) Mahoney, Billie (Bill) Fardoe, Ross and Doug (Mary) MacArthur. He was also predeceased by his sister in law Elsie Schoffer, and brother in law Bill Maluta.
Jack's family and friends will fondly remember and greatly miss his gentle and smiling presence. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Ross Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #73 (73 Hapnot Street, Flin Flon, Manitoba, R8A 1L7) where Jack enjoyed reminiscing with fellow veterans.
