ANITA DON MELNICK
It is with profound sadness, that we share with friends and family, the passing of our Dear Mother, Anita Don Melnick. Mom passed away peacefully on January 21st, 2026 at the Flin Flon General Hospital at the age of 59 years. She was born in Snow Lake in 1966 where she was raised and resided for her entire life.
Mom had many passions in life. She always enjoyed outdoor adventures which included fishing, both summer and winter, accompanying her husband Kirk on overnight trips to his trapline, snow shoeing with her kids, and camping! Her campsite was always a place she loved people to visit and sit around the campfire. She loved creating things! This included a huge variety of crafts over the years, as well as her ability to cook and bake the most wonderful dishes and sweeties. Her biscuits, a recipe shared from her late mother-in-law were the most amazing of all!
Mom completed her Resource Management Degree in her early 20s and worked in various positions with the Government of Manitoba-Natural Resources throughout the early years. She then went on to complete an apprenticeship/certificate in Floral Arranging and Giftware and opened the original Sweet Nothings in Snow Lake, which she successfully owned and operated for a number of years. Her shop was often a busy hub of friends gathering and visiting her beautiful displays of flowers and giftware. She spent a number of years at home raising her much awaited children, and then started a career with the Northern Health Region in various capacities, which she remained employed in until her passing.
Her biggest passion by far were her children Kash and Carli. She was very proud of them on so many levels, and spoke always about their accomplishments and happiness. Mom inherited a love for animals, big and small and sadly leaves behind her little dog Mitzy, and her cat Pepper. She always mourned the loss of her earlier fur babies, Miken, Ebony, Frisky the rabbit, Luke and Holly. Some of her simple loves in life included shopping and more shopping, anything buffalo plaid and purple gatorade! Buffalo plaid became a standard in her home and wardrobe.
She leaves behind her son Kash (Kristen) and her daughter Carli (Ethan), their father and Anita’s forever friend Kirk Melnick and her partner of 6 years Andrew Cook. She sadly leaves behind her siblings, sister Susan Boles and brother Mark Chlan, their families, her nieces Bayley Ibikunle, Ainslee McLaughlin and their families along with her nephew Tymber Chlan and his family. Mom also leaves behind a large number of extended family members, in-laws and many dear friends. Anita was predeceased by her parents, Allan and Donelda Chlan, her in-laws Harry and Emily Melnick, and many dear aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
The immediate family of Anita would like to thank all the beautiful people who supported her through her journey over the last number of years. The staff of the Snow Lake Clinic, the staff at the Snow Lake Pharmacy, the Thompson Cancer Care Program and the Navigation Team, the Cancer Care Program of Manitoba and each and all of you who touched Anita’s life in some special way…..The care and attention she received was deeply appreciated.
In Memory of our Beautiful Mother, donations can be made to the Manitoba Cancer Care Program or any charity that you so desire.
A Celebration of Anita’s Life will be held at a later date.
