Jerome Schaerer

It is a melancholy duty to report that Jerome Vaughn Schaerer has completed his final voyage, departing this life on February 14, 2026, in his lifelong home of Flin Flon. A man of the North through and through, Jerome was never one for "stupid talk," preferring the quiet of the woods, the water, or the steady rhythm of a well-tuned engine. Having dedicated himself to his God, Jehovah, in the spring of 1968, he lived by a strict and honest compass; his word meant something, and he was known for his straightforward and fair nature.

He was a "Mr. Fix It" of the highest order, an industrial mechanic who found as much joy in the repair of a snowmobile as he did in the silence of a fishing trip. While he briefly sought the softer climates of British Columbia, he found the heat not to his liking. He returned to the North with all possible sail, remarking with characteristic wit that he was no slow learner. In his later years, he found contentment in retirement, looking after the apartment block and spending his days plinking with his .22.

He leaves behind his beloved Mabel, whom he married in 1969, and their children: Rhea, Ryan, Riley, and Reid. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Raine, Ryder, Hudson, and Bianca—whom he guided with a dignified and steady hand. Though he was known for his respectful and even disposition, he was also the sort of fellow to rouse his crew with a spirited rendition of "Red Red Robin" at the break of day. A faithful brother, a devoted husband, a loving son, a caring father, and a kind grandpa, Jerome has found the peace and quiet he so often sought in his garage.

A Memorial Service for Jerome Schaerer will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 120 Alder Avenue, Flin Flon, Manitoba.
